Modelling with Claude
RazorCAD can build features from a plain-language description using Anthropic's Claude.
Setting up
Open Tools ▸ Claude Settings… (or the Claude tab ▸ Claude Settings) and choose how RazorCAD reaches Claude:
- My Claude subscription (Claude Code on this PC): each request goes through the Claude Code command-line program installed on this PC, signed in to your own Claude Pro or Max plan. It counts toward that plan's usage limits, with no separate bill. The dialog shows where Claude Code was found, its version and whether it is signed in; Sign In… starts the sign-in, which you finish in the browser, and Check Again reads the status again. Claude Code runs with no tools, settings or memory, from an empty folder, so it sees only RazorCAD's modelling guide and your request.
- An Anthropic API key: enter your own key (create one at console.anthropic.com ▸ API Keys; requests are billed to that account). The key is stored on this PC in
%APPDATA%\RazorCAD\claude.jsonand is only sent to api.anthropic.com. Remove Key deletes it.
Then choose a model: Opus, Sonnet or Haiku.
Ask Claude panel
Open it with the Claude tab ▸ Ask Claude, or Tools ▸ Ask Claude….
- Describe a part or a change. Claude adds the features to the tree; each answer is one undo step.
- If the features don't build, Claude is told the error and corrects it, up to two more tries.
- Claude sees the feature list and body sizes of the part, not the picture.
- New Conversation (or New chat in the panel) starts fresh; the part stays as it is.
- The model can be switched in the panel.
RazorCAD Part Builder on claude.ai
A companion page on claude.ai lets you describe a part, see the feature list with sketch previews, and download it as a .rcad file to open in RazorCAD. It uses the same modelling guide as the in-app panel.
