Airfoils
The Airfoil tool on the Sketch tab draws a wing or blade section on a line.
Drawing an airfoil
- Select a line in a sketch and click Airfoil (or click Airfoil, then the line).
- The line becomes the chord: a construction line with the leading edge at its start. The airfoil is drawn on it.
- The airfoil follows the line. Drag its ends or dimension it (or set Chord length in the panel) and the airfoil scales and turns with it.
- Extrude the sketch. The profile is one smooth closed curve that follows the exact section to within 0.002 % of the chord.
Sections
| Choice | Sections |
|---|---|
| Library | 28 NACA 4-digit sections (0006 to 6412), 10 NACA 5-digit sections (21012 to 25012, and the reflexed 23112), and Clark Y (11.7 %, 8, 10 and 14 %) |
| NACA code | Type any code, for example 4415 or 23012 |
| Custom | 4-digit: maximum camber, its position and thickness. 5-digit: design lift coefficient, camber position, reflexed camber line and thickness. Clark Y: thickness. Decimals are allowed. |
Options: sharp or blunt trailing edge, camber to the other side, and the leading edge at the other end of the line.
